Sixteen Weeks, Fifteen Pounds (Hopefully Not All Bacon)

Taken yesterday after our follow-up appointment with the nurse practitioner at the GI clinic.  I can’t believe he’s gained so much weight – 14 lbs. and 15.9 ounces!  Grew another inch since the last time we were there, too – he’s now 25 inches.  Therefore, she wasn’t too concerned about the continued slimy poos and the elevated LFTs, but we do still have to retest on the 20th, and those numbers will decide whether we keep the appointment in Cincinnati with the pediatric hepatologist.  Sucks to have to go for yet another blood draw, but I am feeling a bit more relieved about the potential severity of the whole ordeal.  I am supposed to give the soy elimination a little more time to perhaps become effective with the icky dirty diapers, but they did not recommend proceeding to eliminating gluten or corn or anything else from my diet – yet.  I’d bet it’s still on the table, but no point jumping ahead for now.
Yesterday at lunch the sandwich I ordered without cheese came with cheese anyway, and I didn’t even notice until I’d taken a tiny bite.  GASP.  I’m just mad that I didn’t even notice, and thus didn’t savor it.  Luckily my friend was happy to take that gouda off my hands (plate).  Otherwise it’d have been sorely tempting to just eat it rather than let it go to waste.
Must admit that this isn’t all bad for me.  Many more pairs of jeans are fitting, and some are even loose.  I haven’t stepped onto the scale in a couple weeks at least, both because I know that numbers matter little – it’s more about what I can wear and how I feel in it – and because it had already started to fluctuate, sometimes up and sometimes down.  So I guess I’ve probably hit some sort of plateau.  What’s going to be really difficult is trying to maintain and not go overboard if I am ever allowed to add dairy back.  I would love to say that I would just keep on with it, knowing that all that dairy fat’s not really good for me anyway, but…that would make me a big fat liar with flaming pants.  Perhaps I could compromise and say, not eat bacon for a while.  You’d think I’d get sick of it at some point, but…um…it’s BACON.  For your amusement, here is a small sampling of reasons why bacon is better than true love.

  1. Mrs. Misfits says:

15 lbs! What a big boy. He seems like he's doing great and I can't wait for everything to turn back to normal, Dairy is delicious even if elimination is for such a great cause. And hooray on the benefit of loose pants. If there is one upside, it is a good one.

  2. Agreed, thanks! I expect he will start to thin out more once he gets more active. He doesn't seem to be anywhere near rolling over yet, but I suppose that will happen all of a sudden when I'm not looking! Yes, I keep thinking of things to wear now that it's cold and then realize…oh yeah, that was maternity clothing. Not gonna work this year! 🙂

  3. The weight loss is certainly a benefit, isn't it? I haven't been able to stick to a diet EVER IN MY LIFE … but when it's for someone else's benefit suddenly willpower appears. And yes, bacon is THE BOMB x
