Well, the library had no Cervantes on the shelf, and I was in a hurry. I picked ‘Haunted’ by Palahniuk. LOVE it so far. Saint Gut-Free. And I thought we were disturbed! The group of writers in the book beats us. By a lot!

I understood the post up to LOVE it so far. Everything after that just confused me.

oh, you gotta read this book! after reading your short, I think this is SO up your alley. it’s about as thick as a magazine compared to AK; you could probably read it in a weekend. It’s a complilation of 23 shorts written by pseudonymed people who responded to an ad for a writer’s retreat: leave your life for 3 months.

Sounds good. Is that his newest book? I thought I remembered him talking about it in an interview I watched online.

I have no idea. I just grabbed the grey-est one and ran with it. My brother would know…I think he qualifies as a fan.

I don’t think so. I think I read ‘survivior’ but I’m not even sure without flipping through a synopsis at least, which one it was.

Survivor’s page numbers are backwards. The last page is page one and the first is two hundred something I believe. The main character is a member of a suicide cult. Since he wasn’t the eldest son in the family he didn’t get to get married but instead had to learn some crafts and leave the cult and go out and earn money to send back to the cult. Word gets out that he was from this cult where everyone killed themself and he didn’t. Other members that never killed themselves start getting murdered and he becomes a bit of a popular figure. His fifteen minutes of fame and his conversations with his agent are hilarious. A bit of a dark but humorous critique of American pop culture. That’s what I remember from it at least.

hm. I don’t think that was the one. Been too long. I could probably re-read it already if that was it!
